<lj:music>Lily Allen - "Smile"</lj:music>

As it turns out, I'm still alive! Woohoo!

I'd love to update everyone with exciting news and photos from exotic vacations, but it would be one short entry. The sad thing is that although I haven't written in my LJ for months, I can't think of anything exciting to write about. So here we have the Tessa tried-and-true favorite: bulleted lists!

• I've seen every summer blockbuster because it is a fine way to waste time while eating deliciously fake-buttered popcorn. I saw Pirates (at midnight), Superman Returns (twice), The Devil Wears Prada... I'll probably get dragged to see You, Me, and Dupree or Clerks II. At least I love the Wilson brothers, and aren't Shannon & Rachel Larratt in Clerks? $20 if you know who the are, haha.

• In addition to seeing movies at the theater, I'm making my way through every foreign film at the library. God, I love being pretentious! That and I've seen every decent English-language DVD at the library, but whatever.

• I learned how coffee beans are decaffeinated: magic. There is no other explanation, except maybe Wikipedia.

• My dad and I are on opposite sides of the Lebanon/Israel conflict. That's a fun one.

• I met Michael Madsen. Yes, it was the most awesome 5 minutes of my life, and no, he did not cut my ear off. He did threaten to use duct tape on my 8-year-old brother, though. My love increased tenfold.

• My family went to Chicago. I know my Indianapolis crowd has been there many times, but it's still fun to go. My favorite part was eating. Some things never change.

I especially
don't like expectations or pressure.

I like to listen and to be of service, but don't take advatage of this.

Listen until I finish speaking, even though I meander a bit.

Give me time to finish things and make decisions. I already had a weird one; I saw so many people from my school at the mall yesterday, including MR. DRAKE... I spent the rest of the afternoon with some people I ran into. Then we went to Target, where I tried on $1 bunny ears. After I got home, my cousin came over, and she told me about how she bought those same bunny ears today for one of her friends. I'm living in the Twilight Zone.

Also, today I passed a song on heavy mode on DDR... oh God, did I just admit to that on the internet?

    <lj:music>The Strokes - "Heart in a Cage"</lj:music>

It was brought to my attention (several days ago, haha... I am the queen of procrastination) that I haven't updated in a month. So here goes ;)

I saw Walk the Line last night with some friends. As usual, I was pretty late in seeing it, but the theater was still full even at the end of its run. I couldn't believe the actors were doing their own singing! Even if you consider all the coaching, they were incredible. Then today I saw Brokeback Mountain again with Cosmo. I haven't seen him in forever... it was so nice just to talk to him about stupid stuff. And he loved the movie.

And now I'm watching the Addams Family movie. My life revolves around movies -- haven't I said this in a post before?

So anyway, I'm sorry to my friends that I never update. Just comment when you want me to write some more... of course, there may be a, erm, slight delay. ;)

    <lj:music>Cut Copy - "That Was Just A Dream"</lj:music>

My new year's resolution: update my LJ more!

Hahaha, it's never going to happen.

Anyway, how was everyone's winter break? I know there's still a day left, but it will go by so quickly and all I'll be thinking about is school.

• I saw King Kong. I think I would've appreciated it more if I had seen the original, but I still liked it. Was anyone else unable to take Jack Black as a serious actor?
• I got DDR for Christmas. I'm working my through light mode. I beat an 11-year-old last night; it was monumental.
• I forget what else happened during the first week of break. Memorable... that's how I'd describe it.
• We had a chocolate fountain last night. Ohhhhhh man. It's the stuff of dreams.
• The TV stayed on that dreadful Dick Clark New Year's special for a while after midnight, and come 12:15 or so... I saw people drinking a TAB ENERGY DRINK! In a pretty pink can and everything! Needless to say, I went kinda crazy. I read some more about it, and apparently it doesn't even taste like Tab. What's the point? It's coming out in February. Of course, if I ever see it, I'll buy it. Gotta support Tab sales in every form.

I hope everyone is having/had a great time. Hopefully I'll get to see Brokeback Mountain today -- it's finally playing in Indianapolis. Hope it's as good as I've heard it is...

    <lj:music>The Arcade Fire - "No Cars Go"</lj:music>

How was everyone's Thanksgiving? Mine was great; there was plenty of eating involved. Mmm, deep fried turkey... I just love health food. And oh, how many things I've accomplished over my break!

I went to the Lord of the Rings exhibit at the Indiana State Museum... which, uh, is just between you and me, OK? So it was actually kinda cool, even if I never did grasp those books entirely. They had some nice costumes and an interactive display that told me I was the same height as a dwarf. It made me feel pretty good.

I also tried to figure out BitTorrent today. I think I understand it, but apparently this file is going to take 8 hours to download. I can hardly contain my joy. Speaking of illegal files, I listened to some Rufus Wainwright today for the first time in a while, and I suddenly remembered what an incredible singer he is. You need to obtain some of his songs if you haven't already. He's gay, if that makes you any more interested.

I saw a weird commercial today. They showed a monk going around picking up turtles and helping insects, little things like that to show that he wouldn't harm any living thing. Then they showed him using a Kleenex and his shocked expression because the box said "Kills 99.9% of all germs." I don't know... it just seemed really disrespectful for a commercial. My friends and I would joke around about something like that, but running it nationally to viewers of all kinds seems a little off. Or maybe it's just me, and Ms. McAlear has finally made me go crazy.

Buy me these, please and thank you.

    <lj:music>Wolf Parade - "Fancy Claps"</lj:music>

Hey. This week has been pretty uneventful, as always, but it's great that it's only three days long. We've talked about going to Chicago for the weekend, but I doubt that it's going to happen, haha. Oh well. Time spent doing absolutely nothing is underrated. What do you all plan on doing?

It seems to be unavoidable for me to talk about movies and/or television in every single entry, so here it goes. Have you ever seen Lost in Translation? It's the one set in Tokyo with Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray. It's incredibly boring the first few times you see it, but now I love the movie. They finally added the soundtrack on iTunes, which sparked my interest to see it again.

I saw Wallace and Gromit on Sunday. Not a perfect movie either, but still really cute. Oh yeah, and I saw Corpse Bride again on Saturday. Apparently I live at the movie theater. Mmm, popcorn drowning in butter...

    <lj:music>Weeds on TV</lj:music>

Hey. Summer has gone far too quickly. One day, I'm sitting at home watching crappy TV for hours at a time, and the next day... well, I'm still doing that, except that in one day I'll have to go back to school. Man. Some people really enjoy spending their summers with friends, partying and being active, while I enjoy being a social cocoon and investigating just how little I can do over defined periods of time. It's been awesome. I've also discovered that the library has an excellent stock of DVDs to loan. You only get to keep them for 3 days at a time, but since they're free, I can tolerate it.

List ten songs that you are currently digging... it doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're no good but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artists, and the ten songs in your blog. Then tag five other random people to see what they're listening to.

1. "Neverevereverdid" - Architecture in Helsinki
2. "My Hero" - Foo Fighters
3. "Another Girl, Another Planet" - The Only Ones
4. "Candy Says" - The Velvet Underground
5. "Finding Out True Love is Blind" - Louis XIV
6. "Love Burns" - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
7. "Wild One" - Wakefield
8. "Stuck in the Middle with You" - Stealers Wheel
9. "What Ever Happened?" - The Strokes
10. "Fuck the Pain Away" - Peaches

Hahahahaha all my songs suck. I think everyone else has already been tagged, so... feel free to do it again.

I can't help but laugh when I see this, 'cause I can imagine all these LiveJournal addicts drinking coffee all night and refreshing their friends page on every half hour... *coughs*

1) I'm in love with Fry's Electronics. When I first walked in, all I saw was motherboards, connectors, coaxial cables, and other things that I am not smart enough to know how to use. Then I saw the freeze-dried ice cream, the huge selection of Mac software, the refrigerators, the grills, the TVs that are bigger than my house, the (small) CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN... I think Fry's had everything. I'm trying to limit our time together so the honeymoon period will last longer.

2) I have actually been watching the Tour de France. Every day. o_0

3) Bewitched is likely the worst movie I have ever seen. Also, I watched Donnie Darko for the first time last week. Despite all the hype (both negative and positive) I really liked watching it. Sure, it's not the best movie I have ever seen, but it's enjoyable.

4) Who wants to bet on when my next update will be?

It's a smallish picture, and I just want it to sit pretty at the top of the page. I'm so bad at LiveJournal. I can't even update this thing, haha. I promise it will look much better once I get that stupid picture to show up... as for the quality of the entries, I can make no guarantees.

My dad just hit a tree with the lawn mower, so he asked me to duct tape it. <lj:music>Rufus Wainwright - "Oh What A World"</lj:music>

Check it out: I'm watching Child's Play 2. It's terrible having about 50 all-movie channels and Child's Play being the only good thing on. Well... that's bad word choice. The only movie that isn't a chick flick? The only movie that had more than 5 minutes left?

Wow. I have low standards.

I watched this movie when I was little (due to having an older brother) and I remember being TERRIBLY frightened of it. Now I watch it and it's hilarious. Some "technicians" take a few hours to assemble Chucky and then get electrocuted putting his eyes in. That sounds more like a MAD TV skit.

Nothing's going on in my life, which should be the norm for you by now. I've been going on a classic movie run: Clockwork Orange, Casablanca, Reefer Madness (hahahahahahahaha), Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Clerks, Moulin Rouge (soon to be a classic)... actually, I did that during spring break, but I haven't exactly updated since then. So there you go. My wild and crazy spring break - because I am a wild and crazy guy!

Damon just said "I wish Chucky took the form of a panda." Yeah.
Well, I missed the Club Nite dance, but it sounds like it wasn't that great anyway. I've never been to a school dance or anything of that nature, so why start now? ;) If I would have gone, I would've just stalked attractive juniors and tripped over my own two feet. I can also see myself making rude comments before realizing that one girl really was having a seizure. Then I would have kicked myself and hid somewhere. Soo... on the whole, it was better that I went to the Pacers game. By the way, was Cosmo there? He said he would be, but you know how his plans work.

The LA Rapers had a less than stunning performance, and by some kind of miracle, we won. Reggie scored 39 points - the same as his age - and I don't think he missed a single three-point shot (of which he made several). A good time was had by all. Too bad he's the only good player without an injury or suspension. It's also too bad that he's retiring next year.

At least I'm being moderately social tonight and going to Josh's party. I hear there's a "big surprise" waiting. A car? MTV? The end of the world? So many options. But even if the surprise sucks, hey, free food.

In other news, I'm watching Groundhog Day on television... that's such a fantastic film. See it if you never have.

How have you been? My week was quite boring and full of school. The highlight of my day today was getting to carry a girl's new handbag for an entire two seconds (mmmmm, Dior). It was gorgeous, just like everything she owns. Unfortunately, I've gotten into the habit of yelling her name in the hallway and asking if I could touch her belongings. I bet she finds that creepy. Someday I'm going to ask to see her Bentley Continental, just when my creepiness has gotten so bad that it cannot get worse. ;) Or I could see her either one of her other two Bentleys. I'm not picky, you know.

Do you ever read over what you type and laugh at it? Do you do it several times, thinking about just how funny you are?

Because I just did that.

I am such a creep.

It aired in the 1960s. It was a lawyer series, starring Perry as the greatest detective ever (with the help of Paul Drake, of course). It's on the Hallmark channel at 3 o'clock, in case you're curious (I'm watching it at 9 because of TiVo). Admit it, you are. At least not EVERYTHING on Hallmark is crap, like Lifetime.

I've had a great weekend so far, so it's even nicer to have an extra day off - thank you, Dr. King. I went to a friend's house, where we did the crossword and cryptoquip on a Saturday night. It was awesome.
Do you have excellent plans for the holidays? Are they anywhere near as excellent as mine? I plan to eat all day long. Yeah, beat that.

What about presents? Expecting anything nice? I really have no idea what my parents will pull together, considering that everything I want probably would cost a million dollars, heh. It's tough having a materialistic daughter. Dior shoes, Dior bags, Prada shoes, Michal Negrin jewelry, rabbit fur accessories, a 1980 Rolls Royce we saw at the Zionsville Bentley dealership... those are all great ideas to me. Do you think maybe I'll get a 1:50 scale model of a Rolls? ;)

The really sad cheesy thing is that I don't care what I actually end up getting. The best part is the food (woohoo, gastric bypass) and the GOOD relatives I see (I can think of two). What a terrible year for Tessa. Oh, I almost forgot! I'm going to the Pacers-Pistons game on Christmas day, which should be a lot of fun. There's something productive I could actually write about later...

Sorry for the extreme lack of updates. I've been reading my infinitely interesting friends page instead of focusing on myself.

You didn't believe that for a minute, did you? ;)

The weather is quite sucky outside. It's been raining hard all day, it's in the 30s, it got dark around 4 PM and there are tornado warnings all around Indiana. I don't think my county has one, but I'd hate to be sure and jinx myself. It's the kind of weather that makes you want to stay in bed and eat. Tomorrow's Thanksgiving feast sounds promising... deep fried turkey, plates of cheeses (real ones, not Kraft slices), lots of sides, and I believe even clam stew? Sounds a little bizarre, but of course, Alex requested it. Silly brother. Nothing my dad makes could be bad, though.

Does everyone have exciting plans for the holidays? Do you already have presents planned for me? ;)

Unfortunately it's about nothing!

But that's OK. I just came back from a "family reunion" in Corydon, IN (in the middle of nowhere, except for all the houses of my other relatives). But we see most of these people more than once a year, and those we don't are the kind we never want to see anyway. It's always the same thing - a long drive, potato salad, fruit salad, macaroni, and eight bags of chips from us. At least we got home before nighttime this year.

I'm watching the Brady Bunch marathon on VH1, pop-up video style. Pop-up Video was a great show, but Brady Bunch... not so much. It's very predictable, and why couldn't just one thing go wrong? The better shows of that time were certainly Sanford & Son or Green Acres. Real shows.

Otherwise, life's been good, school's been tedious, those twins still have fabulous Australian accents, I still have five cats, etc. Do you like the new background image? I wish I could move the content table around more. No matter how much I tinker with the numbers, I can't get it to really move over to one side. It will shift a few pixels to either side and get rather skinny, but that's it. If anyone could help, that would be excellent, but if not, that's OK too. I imagine most of you view this from your friends page anyway. 8)

It's quite... out there. Also, Beavis and Butthead is on TV right now. Even more "out there".

School's still boring; school's still slow. Except I'm not even taking a plus English class, and I still find it hard to maintain a decent grade there. I heard some other girls saying the teacher was hard, so maybe I'm not alone. Or maybe I am. Oh well, I have my chocolate.

It's that time of year again when everyone deletes people off their friends list. I don't hate anyone who does it, but I don't really see the point. Add only the people you like. Or, hey, add them to make them feel good and then put them into a friends group (yes, they do exist) and you can make friends-only entries that don't include them. And they'll never know! Ha-ha! Of course, that's all too much work for me. Especially for the two friends or whatever I have.

I had this really funny comment here, but due to my, uh, ingenius comedic timing, I guess no one got it. School is going VERY slowly. I'm far from being a genius that solves problems in .007 seconds, but I seem to be stuck with teachers who love to go on and on about what they like, bizarre examples that have nothing to do with what we're doing, and things that we learned a decade ago. Then I get bored in the class and do poorly on whatever activity they have planned. It's a lose-lose situation, but at least I can leave at 3:05.

Labor Day weekend, anyone?

A most sensational weekend

Well... "sensational" might be pushing it, but on the whole it was good. On Wednesday (yeah, not the weekend, close enough) my cousin and I saw Hanson in concert. Admit it, you thought they were hot girls. I didn't like how they pretended to have other songs. They don't. They have Mmm-bop. Geez. Seriously, though, they weren't as bad as I suspected they would be. It was fun, and the opening band was surprisingly good. My cousin and I were more interested in their guitarist, who... erm... had an afro. We have a weakness for neatly kept afros and other "ethnic" hair styles (AKA things the skinny little white dude couldn't maintain). He even hung around after his band's portion to sign stuff; we bought their CD and he signed it. He stayed and watched the concert for a long time after that, but unfortunately he was surrounded by the more attractive breed of females. Darn. At least I had my Diet Coke and comfortable chair. And Hanson earrings.

On Friday, we saw John Mayer and Maroon 5. I wasn't too impressed with Maroon 5. Everyone seems to like them, but they hardly excited me (they were, however, really loud. Loud bass ≠ greatness.) Maybe if I knew more than 2 of their songs, I would've liked them more. Oh well. John Mayer was actually very good that night. His musicial skills impressed me as usual, and this time they threw in some fun stuff like a person in a bear costume for someone's birthday, and two people playing a guitar at once... I mean, the same guitar. Neat-o. If you haven't seen Johnny boy in concert and you like his music, I cannot recommend it enough. Unless you have a father like mine. Please don't get obsessed.

On Saturday, Dad and Elliot went to see Mr. Mayer again, haha. They went to Columbus, OH, and from what I heard it was pretty good too. Elliot had been waving at his guitarist for a while (who likes Elliot too, I think - he's a cute kid at a distance, and they don't have many fans his age) and a short while later, a crew member came out and handed Elliot a drumstick and a handful of guitar picks. Man, I want to be 6 again. Except I would want the ice cream kind of drumstick, not the icky wooden kind. Meanwhile, the rest of us went to our former babysitter's party. This lady watched us for probably 15 years or so, and was pretty much a part of the family... it's always good to see her again. She has a great perverted sense of humor that I never appreciated when I was younger. Her yearly parties also feature a culinary masterpiece - Spam burgers. I don't care; she could serve steak and lobster and I would still eat the Spam. I don't know what that says about me, but...

Then Sunday came. My cousin left for Argentina (argharaghaga) so it was unusually quiet at home. I bothered my parents relentlessly and finally got what I wanted - a family viewing of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. Great stoner film. Honestly, I was surprised they allowed so much drug use in an R-rated film. No, I'm not bothered by drugs in movies, I was just surprised at what they got away with. There isn't much plot, but there are a few parts in the movie that are so funny that Dad and I were crying. These make up for the rest of the movie. The weird thing is that sometimes, the movie tries to go a little deep! There's a lot about the racial stereotypes Harold and Kumar face (Asian and Indian, respectively), but thankfully it doesn't go too deep before it returns to smoking pot. See it. It's dumb, but enjoyably so. I edited this earlier because I sounded 12, and now I have to add that my mother hated this movie. But then, what do you expect? Women approaching 50 lose their sense of humor along with their mind.

And yes, after seeing the movie, we all wanted White Castle. What a great dinner. If you aren't a fan, the chicken sandwiches aren't too awful. At least it's the cleanest fast food restaurant around (seriously). Then again, would you eat a racoon if it were prepared off a sterilized counter?

Mmm... racoon.

Good Ol' Lancey-Poo

He's currently 1st in today's time trial. The Tour ends tomorrow (don't worry, I'm not studying this too intensely) and I think all cheesy Americans want him to win. Come on, he's a cancer survivor and he's attractive. That's a winning combination here. Plus my dad and his friends are cycling fans, so OLN is on all the time with Lancey-poo (one of his friends' pet names for Mr. Armstrong). I also have a soft spot for the guy in yellow and green with matching shoes. Those are pretty cool, but not as cool as the US Postal Service. So... yeah. Go Lance.

No worries here; nothing's going on. We're taking off the hideous wallpaper in the hallway. We easily got the first layer off, but now we're stuck with that stupid yellowish backing. I tried to take some off this morning, but I pretty much took off one square foot while Dad got off about five. I soon gave up and got on the computer. Why waste time? Oh, wait...

Dad mentioned yesterday that he got an e-mail from John Mayer's management that discussed a possible dinner here (or at a restaurant, whatever) sometime next week. Dad likes to make up little plans in his head sometimes, so I'll believe it when I see it. In the meantime, my father is such a weirdo.

And now, back to petting kitty.

The ear is doing fine, and I have come to the realization that summer is on its last leg. One month left, woohoo! I still have stuff to do that does not involve me doing it voluntarily, but at least speech is over (I got an A, which is proof that hippie teachers really are better).

Not too much has been happening. I'd like to upload some pictures from my camera, but I can't find the thingy that charges up the battery (it's nearly dead). It's blue, rectangular, and a thingy. Please search for it.

The neighbors finally picked up their kitty a few weeks ago. Not long after, we went to the pet supply store to donate some things to a spay/neuter no-kill shelter, and we discovered that they had kittens for sale that they had found. I suspected that they would, which is why I agreed to go to the store in the first place. But as we were walking out of the store with a kitten, Mom tried to drill into me that she didn't know they had kittens, and oh no, this is was all an accident...

Oh, come on, Mom. It's not like it's a human baby.

Attack of the frizzy hair and 14G labret stud (mostly the former)!

Same barbell, less of the hair.

Another really nice experience at Needleworx. A girl did my navel a few years ago, and a dude did my ear... for some reason, heavily tattooed men are scarier than heavily tattooed women. But he was very nice all the same. He did a good job as well, even though that place looks like a shack. It has to be one, really, considering the profitability of a tattoo parlor.

He even complimented me on my lack of reaction to the piercing (perhaps this is really why I walked away liking him) and said that usually people cringe and move when he's doing a conch. It certainly hurt, but it wasn't unbearable. I'm probably just good at hiding it. Now I want more, though. That sure was quick, eh? Ear piercings are a good idea - socially acceptable (I like this "having a job" idea) and hideable. The question is, what to get...
